Q: What is a plain?
A: A plain is land with relatively low relief, that is flat or gently rolling. Plains may occur in both lowlands and at high elevations.
Types of Plain
There are many kinds of plain. Coastal plains are the ones adjacent to seas; flood plains adjacent to stream, rivers, lakes; lava plains are formed by flowing lava; glacial plains are formed by the movement of glaciers.
The most famous plains in the U.S. are the Great Plains and Atlantic coastal plain.
